SOLIDWORKS Model Boat Tutorials

Welcome to the cudacountry's SOLIDWORKS 2016 and Mastercam 2017 Model Boat Tutorials. We use SOLIDWORKS 2016 to design our model boats and Mastercam 2017 to create CNC toolpaths to cut the wood hull. The wood hull is used as mold in vacuum forming machine to create plastic hull.

Part 1. Hull. Create plane, two sketches and loft.

2. Hull with Midplane. This tutorial uses hull from Chapter 1 and adds a mid plane. Then, add section to loft and scale down sketch in rear of hull.

Part 23. Coupling. 1/8 Rubber tube. Connects the motor shaft to the propeller shaft.

Part 25. Propeller. Purchase props at Kelvin.com.
Part 26. Bushing. 1/4 copper tubing that fits in hole in hull and guides the propeller shaft.

28. New in 2018 is Flow Simulation Free Surface which allows you to model the flow of two immiscible fluids with a free surface. Here we create Cut Plot and Surface Plot Transient Explorer animations. Also, Flow Trajectories and the new Isosurface animations.
28. 2016 Analyze Hull in flow tank! Analyze design using Flow Simulation and create animation of flow trajectories.
Part 29. Cat Hull. First, complete Chapters 1 and 2 to set up planes and sketches. Use Chapters 31 and 33 for toolpaths, OptiRough and Finish Blend. This project is set up to drop the Power Train (Chapter 13) into any hull design.
Part 30. Hydro Hull. First, complete Chapters 1 and 2 to set up planes and sketch. Use Chapters 31 and 33 for toolpaths, OptiRough and Finish Blend.
31. SW to MCX2017. Move hull file from SOLIDWORKS 2016 to Mastercam 2017. This tutorial rotates solid into the correct Mastercam XY planes and creates a wireframe centered around the solid.
32. Toolpaths for Mid Plane hull. Toolpaths to cut hull from 2 by 4 block of wood. Use as mold in vacuum forming machine to make plastic boat. The wood 2 by 4 stock is cut to 1.5 by 3.2 by 9.3. Create a HST OptiRough and Finish Waterline toolpaths.
33. Toolpaths for Cat and Hydro hulls. Create a Rough OptiRough and Finish Blend toolpaths. Blend is great toolpath!
