Our tutorials are written for CadKey 97 in Chassic Mode.  To change the display to Classic Mode, click Options from the Tools Menu.  Click to place a check in Classic Mode check box.  Click OK.

Create a Blank file and start all drawings with it, see creating b file at end of this page.

25.  Bridge. 3d. We often only do the 2D steps with 3D extra credit. Then design a bridge to be built and tested. Use Bridge Builder software, export as DXF file and import into CadKey.

File Management Hints.

1.  Save student files to diskettes.

2.  Create Blank file and start all drawings with it.

3.  Copy the b file to diskettes and use the DOS attribute command to write protect the file so nothing can be copied to it. 

To add the attribute go to the a: prompt and key in:  attrib +r b.prt     To remove the write protection use:   attrib -r b.prt

B File (Blank file) Description and Steps to Create It.

Load CadKey and press ESCAPE at the prompt:

1.  Change color to Blue 5
     Click COLOR in the Status Window and click blue.

2.  Change Coordinates World
     Click COORDINATES in the Status Window to COORDINATES : WLD.

3.  Snap and Grid ON.  Both set to .2
     F6  DISPLAY.
     F7  GRID\SNAP.
     F2  GRID INCREMENT.
     Key in .2 for x and press ENTER.
     Key in .2 for y and press ENTER.
     F8  SNAP=GRID.
     F1  GRID DISPLAY.
     F2  PRIME DISPLAY.
     F5  SNAP OPTION.
     F1  ON
     ESCAPE.

4.  Note Height .15
     Click -more- twice in the Status Window.
     Click NOTE HEIGHT.
     Key in .15 and press ENTER.

5.  Dimension Height .15
     Click DIMENSION HEIGHT.
     Key in .15 and press ENTER.

6.  Dimension Representation  n.n
     F3  DETAIL.
     F9  SET.
     F3  DIMENSION REP.
     F1  DECIMAL.
     F2  n.n
     ESCAPE.

7.  Axles ON
     F6  DISPLAY.
     F8  AXLES.
     F1  DISPLAY VW.
     F1  ON.
     ESCAPE.

8.  Save the drawing as b.
