SOLIDWORKS 2016 Model Boat Tutorials

Welcome to the cudacountry SOLIDWORKS 2016 and Mastercam 2017 Model Boat Tutorials. We use SOLIDWORKS 2016 to design our model boats and Mastercam 2017 to create CNC toolpaths to cut the wood hull. The wood hull is used as mold in vacuum forming machine to create plastic hull.

New in 2016:
AA Battery Holder assembly.
Improved Propeller!
Electrical routing.
Mastercam 2017 toolpaths.

The following tutorials with the PDF icon are available for viewing. Download the free reader from Adobe.

Table of Contents

Part 1. Hull. Create plane, two sketches and loft.
Part

2. Hull with Midplane. This tutorial uses hull from Chapter 1 and adds a mid plane. Then, add section to loft and scale down sketch in rear of hull.

Part

3. Base.
Part 4. Motor. Same motor used in all our projects.
Part 5. Motor Mount. Sheet metal that flattens
Part 6. Switch. Switch has cool jog to get up over screw and terminal.
Part 7. Wedge.
Part 8. Battery AA.
Part 9. Battery Holder AA.
Part 10. Spring.
Part 11. Rivet.
Assembly 12. Battery Holder AA Assembly with Battery.
Assembly 13. Power Train Sub-Assembly. The Sub-Assembly can be dropped into any hull.

28. Analyze Hull in flow tank! Analyze design using Flow Simulation and create animation of flow trajectories.
Part 29. Cat Hull. First, complete Chapters 1 and 2 to set up planes and sketches. Use Chapters 31 and 33 for toolpaths, OptiRough and Finish Blend. This project is set up to drop the Power Train (Chapter 13) into any hull design.
Part 30. Hydro Hull. First, complete Chapters 1 and 2 to set up planes and sketch. Use Chapters 31 and 33 for toolpaths, OptiRough and Finish Blend.

33. Toolpaths for Cat and Hydro hulls. Create a Rough OptiRough and Finish Blend toolpaths. Blend is great toolpath!
Here are 2012 and 2010 tutorials.

All new propeller.

Power Train with new electrical routing.
Power Train sub assembly can be dropped into any of your hulls.
